Rotary Health Communities Challenge
The Rotary Healthy Communities Challenge (RHCC) is a transformative initiative addressing major health challenges in rural Zambia, particularly malaria, diarrhea, and pneumonia, which are leading causes of child mortality. With a $5 million budget, RHCC is focused on training and deploying community health workers (CHWs) to provide first-line care, strengthening disease surveillance systems, and conducting community health education to improve the prevention, testing, and treatment of these diseases. This project aims to reduce child mortality and empower rural communities by bolstering healthcare systems and promoting effective health interventions.
RHCC is implemented by Malaria Partners Zambia in collaboration with World Vision Zambia and PATH MACEPA. The program receives funding from The Rotary Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and World Vision U.S., reflecting a strong commitment from global and local partners to improve healthcare in underserved areas. By supporting CHWs, conducting outreach programs, and fostering community involvement, RHCC exemplifies Rotary’s dedication to combating preventable diseases and creating healthier communities in line with its motto, “Service Above Self.”
Through this initiative, volunteers and stakeholders actively contribute to building sustainable health systems, reducing disease prevalence, and saving lives, showcasing Rotary’s leadership in global health campaigns.
